Home-inspired Environments

All of our houses are designed to complement the surrounding community. When entering our residences, you will find a well-appointed kitchen, dining facilities, bedrooms and recreational areas. Our round-the-clock maintenance staff and professional landscapers keep our homes in peak condition.

ILA operates more than 35 group homes

(Individualized Residential Alternatives, also known as IRAs) across New York City, providing safe, nurturing environments where Individuals live, love and learn. Our outstanding team of direct support professionals and medical personnel provide supervised care around the clock, helping Individuals achieve skill-building and community integration so they live bright, fulfilling lives.

Houses designed with a personal touch

All of our houses are designed with a personal touch. ILA staff meet with family members to determine loved ones’ tastes and interests before moving into the residence. Family members also receive a tour of our homes, which are comprised of well-appointed kitchens, dining facilities, bedrooms and recreational areas. ILA’s 24/7 maintenance staff and professional landscapers keep our homes in peak condition at all times.

Safety as a top priority

Safety is top priority at ILA, which is why our residences are equipped with an extensive on-call emergency response system consisting of executive administrators, physicians, nurses and maintenance staff. On-call personnel are available to residents who do not require round-the-clock care.

Individuals learn and assist with tasks around ILA’s residences.

Day Habilitation

At ILA, we offer Day Habilitation Programs in Brooklyn and Staten Island. Each program is designed to increase socialization, community integration and independent living skills. Participants attend the program Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., exploring new opportunities and experiences to meet their goals. Activities include bowling, arts and crafts, light fitness, cooking and music classes, essay writing and computer training. Both programs continue to follow COVID-19 safety protocols in accordance with City and State regulations.

Pre-vocational training

Pre-vocational training is also provided at our Day Habilitation Programs. Individuals have the opportunity to volunteer at bakeries, flower shops and other businesses, learning important employment skills to prepare them for the workforce. Individuals also learn about giving back to the community, volunteering at local soup kitchens to help others in need. Knowing they’re making a difference helps to boost Individuals’ feelings of inclusion, self-worth and motivation.

Transportation

Transportation is provided to/from each activity with a staff/Individual ratio of 2:1.

Community Habilitation

Support Staff

Support staff meet with Individuals at their respective homes and accompany them to and from each community activity.

Skill-Development

Our Community Habilitation Program provides skill-development to Individuals at all levels. The program is offered in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Staten Island Monday through Friday.

Pre-vocational Training

Pre-vocational training is provided at a number of volunteer sites to prepare program participants for possible employment, while giving them a strong sense of accomplishment. Bowling, museum trips and other daily outings help foster community inclusion while helping Individuals develop travel training, specific interests and personal goals.

Increased Independence

At-home, support staff help Individuals strengthen their daily living skills, such as cooking, grooming and money management. 1:1 supervision is provided at all times (both at home and in the community) to ensure individualized, person-centered care.
