One of ILA’s newest programs is our Day Habilitation Program on Staten Island. Launched in September 2016, Adults in the Community Enjoying Success (ACES) is designed to increase socialization, community integration and independent living skills. Participants attend the program Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., exploring new opportunities and experiences to meet their goals. Activities include bowling, arts and crafts, light fitness, cooking and music classes, and computer training.
Pre-vocational training is also provided. ACES participants volunteer at bakeries, catering halls and other businesses learning various skills to prepare them for the work force. Individuals also learn about giving back to the community; many volunteer at area soup kitchens, while others distribute fliers for local businesses and shred paper for nearby animal shelters. Knowing they’re making a difference helps to boost Individuals’ feelings of inclusion, self-worth and motivation.
Transportation is provided to/from each activity with a staff/Individual ratio of 2:1. For more information on ILA’s ACES Program, as well as ILA’s Day Hab Without Walls Program in Brooklyn, please call Nicole Sawyers at 718-852-2000, ext. 1152.
